I'm a student. How do I access ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap and ArcCatalog)?
Under our site license, any student can install ArcGIS Desktop or Pro on their personal computers.
Installation media for ArcMap and Pro are at:
https://uwmadison.app.box.com/folder/171003551440?s=7enlptnev6jez6fx1amrvveh756414p2
For ArcMap, see folders named Desktop, with the latest version and sometimes older ones. Within those folders, download the installation media you wish. For Desktop, you will want ArcGIS_Desktop_*****.exe, which should be installed first. Most people also install the BackgroundGP (Geoprocessing), and some also the Data_interoperability extension. There is a Box Note describing the files.
To license the software, email a request to esri@dpla.wisc.edu All licenses expire July 31 each year, and you can request a renewal beginning July 1.
I'm a student. How do I access ArcGIS Pro?
Under our site license, any student can install ArcGIS Desktop or Pro on their personal computers.
Installation media for ArcMap and Pro are at:
https://uwmadison.app.box.com/folder/171003551440?s=7enlptnev6jez6fx1amrvveh756414p2
For ArcGIS Pro, the Folder prefix is Pro, with the version number following. In addition to the installer, there may be a patch with extension *.msp, and optional Extensions. There is a Box Note describing the files.
To license ArcGIS Pro, you may activate your Named User License in our ArcGIS Online (AGOL) organization.
Access the UW ArcGIS online Organizational Account using Enterprise login (UW NetID) by going to:
https://uw-mad.maps.arcgis.com
Click the “Sign In” button
Select UW NETID LOGIN and you will be taken to a DoIT login page for the UW, where you will use your regular NetID and Password to get in.
That login will create an account with a quota of credits, licensing for ArcGIS Pro, and access to training at https://www.esri.com/training
See more details on our AGOL page.
Why does a tool or extension say I am not licensed for it in ArcGIS Pro?
If an extension license is required to run a geoprocessing tool, this requirement is shown at the top of the tool’s help topic. Licensing requirements are also found in the toolbox licensing help topics.
To view the license of the extension:
- You can see which extensions you are licensed to use on the ArcGIS Pro Settings page.
- In the list of tabs on the left, click Licensing. On the Licensing page, under Esri Extensions, all ESRI extensions are listed.
In the Licensed column, a Yes or No value indicates whether the extension is licensed for your use.
In the Expires column, the value N/A means your organization does not have licenses for the extension. An expiration date of Never means you are assigned a perpetual license. A specific expiration date means you are assigned a term license.
